Unless you've been hiding in a cave over the last couple of days you can't help but know that Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter died after being barbed by a Stingray. So what's that got to do with anything I hear you ask, well it's just that I've seen it mentioned in various places that in a way he had it coming. The kinda 'if you play with fire, your gonna get burnt' logic. Now personally I don't hold with that and mourn his passing, but just maybe I'm unedumacted and he had it coming. If thats the case I'll remain an uneducated pleb as I found him entertaining and good viewing. The idea of applauding his death cos of what he did, kinda nauseates me.

I live in the East End of London and the smoke is slowly making it's way in this direction.  The smoke is high enough so as not to cause any noticeable effects, but god knows what invisible shit is raining down on us.

Updated (14/12/05): It would seem that for a few days the cloud took a visit to France, probably for duty frees and soft cheese.  Then it buggered of to Spain.  Even toxic clouds find Britain repellant.*</:-[)

Fanfares sound, the audience rise as one, Gordon Brown, Prime Minister of Great Britain rises to open the Olympics.  One problem, no Olympic torch.  The torch bearer is stuck at Tower Hill Tube station waiting for a train that has been delayed cos of a signal failure in Banghock.  It's going to be a complete embarassment, the rest of the world will be pissing itself at our inept transport system.  Twice I have ventured out in the last eight days with the intention of going from A to B using London Underground and the SilverLink.  Twice I have been thwarted by signal failures, refurbishments and  the inconsideration of those who choose to end their painful existence by chucking themselves in front of a hundred ton plus missile going at about eighty miles a hour. 

 

We either sort out the transport system or we are not only going to be hated by the rest of the world, we are gonna be having the piss taken out of us for the very forseable future.

The Film 'Green Street' will have the working title of "Go on Mr Frodo, Kick Shit Out Of Him" in the US.

Now personally I'm not to concerned if some woman wants an 11 ft rendition of herself, stark bollack naked and heavily pregnant out there in the public eye, but of course Ken Livingstone (our illustrious Mayor.  Fucking great isn't it, New York gets Juliani, we get Red Ken) is all for it, and I qoute "I've never seen a naked disabled person before".  Of course you haven't you twat, not unless your some kind of perv or are married to one.  Anyways, more on him in a bit.  Now I got interested in the story, because I happened to switch on just as some Anal Retentive from the Germaine Greer school of bullshit, was proffering the opinion that as soon as art is used to reinforce a political arguement, it is no longer art.  Now this woman is disabled and Red Ken is all for her political statement etc.  Red Ken is the last of a dying breed of closet commies, pretending to be sociallist.  he likes any bandwagon that'll get him TV time.

 

So this got me to thinking, what is art?  Some twonk using feces instead of paint, is that art? Tracey Ermin not making her bed, is that art?  I'm aware of paintings that came out of the concentration camps which showed every day life in the place.  Paintings of woman and kids being tortured, is it art, or does it become a statement, thus negating it's artistic label?  Personally I don't know, and after much soul searching on the matter, I don't give a toss.  However as an after thought, should this statue be in Trafalgar Square?  Normally the statues there are of people who helped shape Great Britain throughout it's history.  Apart from getting her jugs out, what else has this woman done to shape society, sod all and she don't have a horse either.

I'm a little confused about my enthusiasm for thiese arms fair entries.  I admire the protestors and their commitment to the cause, but can't help feeling that no one really gives a fuck.  The dealers and buyers themselves aren't concerned, they want money on one hand and the capability to blast innocents to kingdom come on the other.  No amount of moralising and protests will stop the fair returning in 2007, 2009, 2011 etc.  People want guns and the bigger the better.  I've even come to the conclusion that Plod don't want to be there either. 

 

We;ve seen at the G8 protest, anti globalisation protest, anti-war protest etc, that all that happens is the real protestors get infiltrated by 'Billy No Mates' who justify their pathetic lifes by hijacking legit protests so they can bash a copper and feel big about themselves.  Plod seeing their own getting a pasting, reciprocate (with norrmally an innocent protestor getting on the wrong side of a long metal truncheon) leading to... etc.

 

Maybe this protesting has it's place, but I can't help but feel that the only real way that we can make a difference is at the ballot box.  Although Newham people don't want the fair here, they still see the protestors as the 'Great Unwashed' who ponce off the state.  So even though we may agree with them, we still consider them freaks.

 

So there you have it, I may go back and get some more pics, but my enthusiasm isn't what I thought it would be.  I did my marching at the back end of the seventies and was all fired up, now I have that 'what's the point atitude'.  Age may play a factor, or maybe the buggers have finally ground me down :-(

 

 

it would seem that the arms fair is not going to actually start until tomorrow, but it's already started to make an impact.  I took a stroll to see my good lady wife at her place of work and ended up being escorted out of her shop by four plod.  My mistake was actually looking at a police van for to long.  I saw the van just before her shop and thought about getting a pic as a intro to this weeks activities.  Deciding against it I went into the shop and while I was waiting to speak to her the van pulled up outside, so I took a picture from the shop doorway.  Back into the shop I go and thirty seconds later in walk four plod who ask me to leave with them.  Lesson 1, don't put your hands in your pocket when surrounded :-), your likely to get grabbed by four burly plod.  They escort me outside with my wife snapping at their heels, she's feisty when angered.  Result being, I got a stop and search form and questioned in the street about previous convictions.  They asked me if I had any drugs, I was half tempted to ask if they were asking to see if I wanted to buy any off them, but decided against it.

 

Anyways, this won't stop me from going back tomorrow.  All in all should be an interesting week.

 

Update : Walked my wife back to work, thought I'd take a wander around the Excel area, plenty of plod, another two photo's, another stop and search.  I understand their apprehension, but the damn thing don't start until tomorrow :-)

Do we want play or not.  Test match is suspended because of bad light.  As an England supporter, I'm torn between continued watching of this gripping series and wanting the teams off to eat up time.  Decisions, thank god I don't have to make them.

It's an interesting few days coming up.  I live not far from the Excel center.  Theyare gonna be hosting the annual arms fair.  This in turn draws in a thousand plus plod and tree huggers in their thousands.  I'm hoping to get down there to capture some interesting photo's.  If I get anything of interest I'll post it here.
